Options for Yard Waste Disposal

Options for disposing of leaves, sticks, small branches, and other yard waste include:

  • Place leaves and yard waste in Johnson County Refuse yard waste bags, and set the bags out for regular Tuesday curbside pickup. 
    • Purchase yard waste bags with the red Johnson County Refuse logo at Fareway on Westwinds Drive. Other bags cannot be collected.
  • One (1) bundle of brush/small branches cut to size and tied with garden twine will be collected free of charge each Tuesday.
    • The bundle can be no more than 36 inches around and 36 inches long.
    • Large branches and sticks that are not bundled cannot be collected.
  • Residents may take leaves, sticks, and other yard waste to the compost facility at the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center at no charge.
