Visioning Project

Community Visioning Grant

In 2016, University Heights was awarded a Community Visioning Grant from Iowa’s Living Roadway Trust. The resulting community visioning process provided insight into the transportation patterns and needs of residents, resulting in a Community Report (October 2016) offering guidance for street, sidewalk, and aesthetic improvements.

Melrose Avenue Streetscape Improvements

Residents designated the Melrose Avenue Streetscape Improvements as the first priority, creating a "complete street" entranceway to the community and enabling safe access for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists along the heavily trafficked arterial.

Partial funding for the planned improvements is secured with a Surface Transportation Block Grant through the Metropolitan Planning Organization of Johnson County.
